15 Sustainable Swimwear Brands for Summer 2021

published on June 28, 2021 by Angela Hamilton

Does anyone else feel like it’s silly to buy a swimsuit, all year round, and the first heatwave hits and you panic? Or is that just me this weekend, as Seattle is 105 degrees which if you don’t know is SO NOT Seattle. I tried to get ahead of it early for once, but to my surprise and delight was actually overwhelmed by the options we now have when it comes to sustainable swimwear! (Pro tip: If you really want to find more ethical fashion brands, make sure you’re searching it online and on Instagram, like alla the time. Creepy as targeted ads are, I DO like that my insta feed is now filled with sustainable shopping!)

While I’ve long known about some of the more iconic swimwear brands on this list, such as Vitamin A Swim and Baiia (their wrap suits are still on my wishlist), I also discovered so many new companies whose designs are just as impressive as their ethics. Here’s my top 15 — and trust me when I say, thanks to IG ads, I had a lot more to choose from.

Baiia sustainable swimsuits

I know I’ve said this in other fashion posts, but Australia kills it when it comes to stylish ethical fashion. Baiia is home to the world’s first 3-piece wrap suit, a reversible design that gives you more bang for your buck.

Vitamin A Swim (photo by Danielle Brown)

Vitamin A Swim (photo by Danielle Brown) specializes in eco and recycled fabrics offered in their bikinis, one pieces, and coverups.

Galamaar swimsuit

LA made Galamaar is simple, sexy, and made for the ultimate comfort and functionality.

eco friendly swimsuit by SALNES

Swimwear brand SALNES offers worldwide shipping on swimsuits designed in Madrid and produced in Bogota. You can shop via Instagram or whatsapp.

Girlfriend sustainable swimsuits

Girlfriend recently launched their much anticipated swimwear line, isn’t this color the best? I’m currently sweltering in their Paloma bra, so I can only assume these sustainable swimsuits are just as good. PS Wonder why they are one of my favorite most affordable fashion brands? Here’s why!

Nisa Sustainable Swimwear Brand

Like many sustainable swimwear brands, New Zealand’s Nisa uses ECONYL to make their eco fabrics. They’re also reversible!

bimby+roy swimsuit

Another Australian label bimby + roy makes intimates that you can sleep and swim in!

eco friendly swimwear by strange bikinis

Strange Bikinis offers biodegradable swimsuits (that can break down in a landfill) as well as those made with recycled plastic.

LaLoba Swim

La Loba Swim is based in Montana, creating both vibrant and earthy toned two pieces as well as some basics.

Manakai Swimwear

Another recent swimsuit discovery of mine is Manakai Swimwear, who makes ethical and sustainable swimwear in lovely solids and the most gorgeous vibrant prints. Once again… they’re reversible!

Sustainable swimsuits by Cleonie Swim (Photo Aleiya Blake)

Cleonie Swim uses an eco friendly crinkle fabric that is super stretchy to fit a variety of body shapes. They have gorgeous color block bikinis and one pieces. Although I will say, I’d love to learn more about how their fabric is eco. (Photo Aleiya Blake)

Honey Lemon Swim

Honey Lemon is a small business designing swimwear with Oeko-tek certified Econyl fabric. Swimsuits are made ethically in Bali.

Andie Sustainable Swimwear

Andie (of course, an Australian swimsuit brand) offers swimwear in sizes XS-XXL. I love that they have a fit guide so you know what kind of size and coverage you’re getting. However, you’ll want to make sure to choose their eco line for the most sustainable fabrics.

LONDRE Swimsuit

LONDRE swimsuits are iconic. They are ethically and sustainably made in Vancouver, with sizes from XS-4XL. This top can be worn forward or backward!

Sustainable Swimsuits by Loop Swimwear

Loop Swimwear offers eco swimwear for the global traveller. They have super fun prints and even offer rash guards. Everything is made from recycled plastic! (Photo: Shannon Tracy)

Eco friendly and ethically handmade swimwear? Count us in. Shop our sustainable collection at www.scampi.se Photo @mikaylaklewer

Scampi Swimwear (photo by Mikayla Klewer) is a Swedish swimsuit company that uses recycled fabrics. I love their color blocking!

Which sustainable swimwear are you buying this summer? Where do you find the best swimsuits?
